Plant for the production of manganese metal

CJSC “CHEK-SU.VK” plans to build a plant in the village Tuim, Shirinsky district of the Republic of Khakassia, for the production of manganese metal using manganese concentrate from the Usinsk mining and processing facilities. Production capacity is 80,000 tons per year. It will fully cover the Russia’s demand for manganese metal, which is essential for smelting high-quality steel.

During the Chinese leader’s visit to Moscow on 8 may 2015 CJSC “CHEK-SU.VC signed an EPC contract with one of China’s largest state-owned companies Sinosteel Equipment & Engineering Co., Ltd. After a competitive bidding process, the Chinese partners were selected as the General contractor for the “turnkey” project.

The project is designed to ensure maximum environmental safety. The main requirement of CJSC “CHEK-SU.VK” for its Chinese partner has been strict compliance with all environmental requirements and the use of the most advanced production technologies. In this regard, CJSC “CHEK-SU.VK” deliberately taking a costlier route in implementing the project. The amount of investment in the construction of the plant and infrastructure will be about 35 billion rubles.

Manganese metal in the plant will be produced using the latest technology, and the construction itself will begin only after all appropriate examinations are carried out.

The raw material for the plant will be delivered from the Usinsk processing facilities to the terminal in Tuim (130 km), using special four-axle dump trucks, while observing necessary road-use requirements and containing the load from entering the surrounding environment.

After start-up of the plant, the Republic of Khakasia’s budget will receive hundreds of millions of rubles a year in additional contributions.
Furthermore, more than 1,600 jobs will be created in Tuim, along with new infrastructure.
